The bothy adventure - do something every day that scares you

In this post, I want to talk about something that's been on my mind a lot lately: the concept of healing versus hiding from our triggers.

It's a topic that's been popping up in many of my coaching sessions, both one-on-one and in group settings. Are we truly healing, or are we just skirting around the things that make us uncomfortable?

Let me share a personal anecdote with you.

I'm gearing up for an adventure this weekend with my friend Jane. We're headed to the Lake District to hunt for secret waterfalls and spend the night in a bothy.

Now, on the surface, this sounds like the perfect adventure for me.

I love nature, I love hiking, and I could really use a break from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

But here's the thing: I'm absolutely terrified.

You see, I have this irrational fear of wild camping and sharing a room with someone who isn't family.

It's something that's held me back from fully embracing certain experiences in the past.

But I've come to realize that by avoiding these situations, I'm limiting myself in more ways than one.

It's like playing a game of "The Floor is Lava," where we hop from one safe spot to another, avoiding anything that might unsettle our carefully curated equilibrium.

But what if, instead of avoiding the lava altogether, we learned to navigate it? What if we leaned into the discomfort and emerged stronger on the other side?

That's what I'm aiming to do with this bothy adventure.

Sure, I'll probably be a bundle of nerves the whole time, but I'm determined to confront my fears head-on. Because I know that true growth lies beyond our comfort zones, in those dark corners we'd rather avoid.

So, as I gear up for this weekend's adventure, I invite you to reflect on your own journey. Are you truly healing, or are you hiding from your triggers?

And if you find yourself hesitating, remember this: the greatest opportunities for growth often come disguised as challenges.
